After winning the US Grand National two weeks ago, winning racehorse Hewick enjoyed a pint of the black stuff on Monday evening as trainer John Hanlon brought the horse into the local pub in Bagenalstown as part of their homecoming.
Returning home, trainer John 'Shark' Hanlon casually walked into the Pint Depot with the horse close behind before asking the bartender for 10 pint of Guinness.
A Horse walks into a bar...
In footage that has gone viral, Hanlon walks into the local pub with the horse and asks for a pint of Guinness, for the horse. Pub-goers gather round the winning racehorse and start to record what goes on. It's not every day a winning racehorse walks into your local.

In another video that has been widely circulated, the horse can be seen necking the pint, much to the amusement of those inside. Trainer Hanlon asks the question,
'Is it on the house though?'

Reaction to the footage
The footage has gone viral, reaching hundreds of thousands of people across the country, and was featured on RTE News. Many fans love the footage and have described it as iconic. Hewick enjoying a pint has now become a popular joke online, with many inviting the horse on their next night out.

However, some have been critical of the footage and say it was unsafe and unfair on Hewick.
Absolutely crazy. I agree probably not I'll intentioned but stupid all the same. Undermines all those devoting themselves to the care of racehorses, including Hewick in particular and provides easy ammunition for the anti racing brigade.

Irish-Trained Hewick wins US Grand National
Hewick, famously bought for only €850, won the US Grand National in New Jersey just over two weeks ago and collected an enormous €160,000 in winnings, starting the race at 21/10 odds. The victory was dedicated to the late Jack de Bromhead, the son of trainer Henry de Bromhead, who died tragically at the age of 13 at a pony race in September.
Shark Hanlon says the Cheltenham Gold Cup is the next stop for Hewick. He's currently a 33/1 shot to win the big race.
