Supasundae was the unlikely victor in today's Champion Hurdle at Punchestown. With the Gordon Elliot-trained Samcro a 5-6 favourite going into the race, only Willie Mullins' Melon was thought to be a potential threat.
Alas, ridden by Jack Kennedy and Paul Townend respectively, Samcro and Melon suffered a similar fate; both falling simultaneously over the third hurdle from home.
For Robbie Power on the Jessica Harrington-trained Supasundae, a late run to the line saw the 7-1 shot bring the Champion Hurdle home.
For many viewing punters, the fall of the favourite Samcro was not a welcome development whatsoever.
Samcro just declared me bankrupt 🐎

Not in racing anyway. Glad I had Supasundae as a saver to my Samcro/Pallisator double!

Thankfully, neither Samcro nor Melson (or their respective jockeys) were hurt in the fall.
Samcro and Melon are both fine despite the fall in the Champion Hurdle. #rteracing
