"I'd expect Samcro to get beaten today. He's won two hurdles," Michael O'Leary told At The Races less than ten minutes before the off of the 2m Deloitte Novice Hurdle at Leopardstown on Sunday.
The owner's facetious statement did not play out. Samcro easily won the Grade 1 race by five lengths with Jack Kennedy aboard.
The Gordon Elliot trained six-year-old remains unbeaten over jumps. Elliot said after the race that he expects Samcro to go even better over a distance further than today's two miles.
Samcro is now even shorter odds - 4/5f - for the Ballymore Novices Hurdle at Cheltenham than he was before today's victory.
