Rory McIlroy won his first tournament since 2016 last week when he delivered a flawless putting performance at the Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Ryder Cup player Brad Faxon had worked with McIlroy prior to the tournament on his putting and as it turns out, McIlroy's appearance alongside Wayne Rooney in a Nike commercial some time ago also had an impact.
We were talking about triggers, how do you start your putting struck. Everyone has different ways to start their swings or their strokes and I said Wayne Rooney before he takes a free-kick or a penalty he taps his toe on the ground before he actually starts his run-up.
McIlroy was more reluctant to reveal his trigger, telling the press he doesn't know what it is. The Northern Irishman has been in good spirits since his win, even sharing a toast with some members of the press.
