You may not have known it with all the sport on last night, but the US Women's Open was just as controversial a finish as the men's equivalent last month. Dustin Johnson claimed the title then after not knowing whether or not he would be penalised a shot for an earlier misdemeanour.
Last night, Brittany Lang claimed the Women's open in a playoff - after her opponent Annika Norqvist was given a two shot penalty for grounding her club in a bunker. Just:

Norqvist had started the day six shots behind, and wouldn't have been in the three-hole playoff without Lang's triple bogey on the 17th. The penalty she incurred was on the second extra hole, but she didn't realise it until the tournament officials informed her on the next hole.
Even still, the USGA President Diana Murphy made a balls of presenting the eventual winner Brittany Lang:
