As the defending champion at this year's Masters tournament, Sergio Garcia will have been aware that history was against him; nobody since Tiger Woods (2001,2002) has won consecutive green jackets.
Keen to give a strong showing nonetheless, as he finished up his first round in Augusta, the Spaniard found himself 9 over and tied 85th overall - a devastating turn of form on the 15th saw him play 11 shots on a par 5.
Repeatedly watching his ball roll from the green into the water, people could not really believe what they were watching.
Garcia named his daughter Azalea after the 13th here. Can't see number two being called Firethorn.

Sergio's 13 on No. 15 ties the highest single hole score in Masters history.

What is happening to Sergio Garcia right now is tough to watch. Going to make double digits on 15. #TheMasters

Sergio Garcia played the 15th hole in 20 strokes last year.

Sergio Garcia with the unconventional 13-2 on back-to-back holes on the card.

Take us through that hole, Sergio. I miss, I miss, I miss, I miss, I miss, I miss, I miss, I miss, I miss, I miss, I miss, I miss, I make.

Thing is, you can laugh and mock Sergio: the Green Jacket in his wardrobe is a pretty strong retort. Today was one of those freak scenarios.

A horrible start to this year's tournament for the defending champions, he won't be entering that rare company of consecutive winners.
