Having entered this week as one of the pre-tournament favourites, it's fair to say that The Masters did not go to plan for Viktor Hovland.

The Norweigan has not been at his best in 2024, struggling to hit the levels of form that saw him win the FedEx Cup last year. In saying that, many expected him to perform well at an event where he finished tied-seventh last time out.

He looked to be very much in the running after the first round of play, carding a 71 to leave him at -1 and in a good position to push on over the days that followed.

However, his second round was nothing short of a disaster.

Viktor Hovland would produce a nine-over score of 81 on Friday. His round included a triple bogey (on the second hole), two double bogeys, and two bogeys.

In the end, his overall score of eight-over saw him finish well outside the cut line at The Masters.

After a bogey on the first, Viktor Hovland's round went completely down hill on the second hole.

He would hit his drive out of bounds, being forced to take a drop in among the trees on the pine straw. Having dropped a shot, his third shot would then rebound off a nearby tree and out of bounds once again. As a result, it took him five shots to get back onto the fairway.

You can watch the player's reaction to that third shot rebounding off a tree below.

Having dropped three more shots before the turn, the 26-year old was looking likely to miss the cut. While he would birdie the 13th, a bogey would quickly follow on the next hole.

By the time he missed the below putt for par on the 15th, it was clear his head was gone.

Hovland would actually par the final three holes, but the damage was very much done at that point.

He will now have to wait another year to get another shot at The Masters. He will be hoping that the scars of this round don't affect his future prospects at Augusta, as has been the case for other players in the past.
