We've already seen Rory McIlroy having a bit of fun on the Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon. While that was all well and good, there actually was a bit of time to have a chat about golf in between the hawking of Nike's latest range. Fallon asked the question that was on everyone's mind, how does McIlroy feel to be in the process of taking up Woods' mantle as the PGA tour's star attraction?
Tellingly, McIlroy's answer was both complimentary and stinging at the same time. (Skip to around the 3 minute mark)
Let's get that in writing.
I've gotten to know Tiger (Woods) over the last few years. And I guess this little run that I'm on, it makes me appreciate what he's done in the past. I mean just phenomenal just to keep a run like his going. And he's done like way more than me. So it makes you appreciate how hard he worked and how dominant a figure he was in our game.
Ouch, never has the past tense been used in a more cutting manner.
