The recent Golf.com interview, in which he laid out his credo, will be that religion's sacred text. With the collapse of organised religion in the west, there is a gaping void in our culture. Miguel is the man to fill it.
Today, his stock rose higher as he sunk a hole in one at the Open de Espana this morning. But the shot was merely the prelude to the joyous celebration that followed.
The prize is rather appropriate too. In contrast to other tournaments, where a hole in one is rewarded with a shiny saloon car modelled on a podium in a nearby lake, a hole in one at the eighth in the Spanish Open is rewarded with 288 bottles of beer.
