It's rarer and rarer that one might be able to associate the term 'classy' with Tiger Woods, but the 14-time major champion has exuded a bit of the old charm in an admittedly sincere letter to a young fan who has been experiencing a rough time of it of late, to put it lightly.
The fan - named only as Dillon - suffers from a stutter, and attempted to take his own life following severe bullying. His mother subsequently reached out to LPGA golfer Sophie Gustafson, who has battled a stutter throughout her professional career. Gustafson in turn brought Dillon's story to the attention of his golfing hero, Woods.
The response from Tiger himself was pretty special.
Dillon spoke with Golf Digest on receiving the letter:
He told me that he used to stutter too. We are going to frame the letter. We have never seen a golf tournament in person, only on TV. I told my mom that when my leg gets better [Dillon fractured his leg when he attempted to take his own life]. I think that would be a fun thing to do.
