There is a remarkable atmosphere down in Limerick today for the JP McManus Pro-Am. While this is not a competitive tournament, you certainly would not know it from looking at the playing field or crowds on show.
The event features arguably the best playing pool of any tournament in golf outside of the four majors in 2022. Ten of the world's top 12 players will be making their way around Adare Manor over the next couple of days.
While he may no longer be at the top of his game, nobody will draw a bigger crowd at the event than Tiger Woods. The 15-time major winner has been a fantastic supporter of this event down through the years, including winning it back in 2000.
Tiger Woods explains love for JP McManus Pro-Am
Speaking ahead of teeing off at Adare Manor this afternoon, he explained why he always enjoys coming into Ireland for the event.
It's one of the few dates that we have to get together like this. We don't get a chance to see some of our brethren over here on the European Tour. They do come over to play in the majors, but this is a totally relaxed atmosphere.
It's all about about charity, having fun, and doing something for the local communities.
What JP has done over the years has been truly remarkable. We're here to support him...
It's (the crowds) pretty crazy isn't it? It was a lot easier when I was walking, so I don't know how the hell I'm going to to get my cart around here, so we'll see!
The 2010 edition of this event raised a whopping €43.7million for charity, a number they will be hoping to surpass on this occasion.
That will be of a massive benefit to a number of organisations throughout the region.
