Rory McIlroy showing up at Old Trafford on Saturday to show off the Claret Jug should have been a pretty innocuous occasion. McIlroy is well known to be a big United fan and as the undisputed best golfer in the world, we're sure the powers that be were happy to have him there.
However, the whole 'celebrating his accomplishment' thing was wildly overshadowed by the horrendous choice of clothing which McIlroy paraded about in.
The Twitter reaction is almost too predictable to address but one of the best came from McIlroy's soon to be Ryder Cup teammate Ian Poulter.
Hey you can keep your Claret Jug but can I have my suit back please Mr @McIlroyRory I thought something was missing. pic.twitter.com/wI12lw7qdV

McIlroy was having none of that and his reply to Poulter was indicative of a man who would have the confidence to get out of bed in the morning and put on that suit.
Sorry @IanJamesPoulter you must be mistaken... this suit was only available with the claret jug! ???? — Rory Mcilroy (@McIlroyRory) August 16, 2014
Obviously it wasn't only fellow golfers who had their say on Twitter. The fashion police gained quite a few temporary members and it became a bit of a game to suggest who or what McIlroy most looked like. We've gathered some of them here in no particular order.

Rupert the Bear
Big applause for Rory McIlroy on the pitch at HT at O.T. Unsure if he's wearing his chequered suit for a bet or to look like Rupert Bear. — Andy Mitten (@AndyMitten) August 16, 2014
