With The Open now complete, it brings to end the 2022 major season, which saw Scottie Scheffler, Justin Thomas, Matt Fitzpatrick, and Cameron Smith hold aloft golf's most coveted trophies.

With the topic of prize money at the forefront of golfing discussions, due to the LIV Golf controversy, we have broken down the prize money on offer at the Open and taken a look at what the Irish competitors will be taking home.

The Open Prize Money

Winner Cameron Smith has earned €2.5 million, still less than the $4 million on offer at LIV Golf, with second place Cameron Young bagging €1,455,000, and third placed Rory McIlroy receiving €933,000.

In terms of the rest of the Irish who made the cut, Shane Lowry was awarded €139,000 for a tied 21st finish, and Castleknock qualifier David Carey took home €33,900

The prize money for the top-30 at the Open broke down as follows;

Major Prize Money

In comparison with the year's other majors, the Masters had a purse of $15 million, the PGA Championship $15 million, and the US Open a cool $17.5 million.

The total amount of prize money on offer at the Open was $14 million.
