European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley has named Ian Poulter, Lee Westwood and Stephen Gallacher as his wildcard picks for this month’s showdown with the Americans at Gleneagles.
None of his choices were surprising, but the biggest name to miss out was former world number 1 Luke Donald.
Scotland’s Gallacher came agonisingly close to automatic selection by finishing third in the Italian Open on Sunday, just one shot out of the share of second place he required.
