The BBC have tonight issued an apology for their much beloved commentator Peter Alliss's carelessly sexist remarks as Zach Johnson was lining up a putt to guarantee him victory in the British Open.
As Zach sized up the putt, the camera zoomed in on his wife (and, we soon discovered, 'CEO') Kim Barcley. Alliss, in characteristically playful mood, ruminated on what Kim might have been pondering.
Wife Kim looking on. She’s probably thinking, ‘if this goes in, we’ve got a new kitchen’
Kim did not confirm whether or not she was thinking this, though it's possible she wasn't asked. The BBC tonight apologised in case anyone was offended.
Peter made a light-hearted comment which was inappropriate and we apologise if anyone was offended.
Alliss, a much lauded figure, delights in making risque remarks.
Here is one of his finest hours from 2008 - on watching Carol Vorderman.
