The Ryder Cup is hotting up nicely and there is a pleasing air of skullduggery hanging over the Gleneagles course.
Andy Bull from the Guardian has brought us this cracker of a story from out beside the eighth green, which should cause controversy.
Bubba Watson slammed his approach left into the crowd, with his ball landing in the rough about a metre away from Bull.
An enthusiastic American lady shrieked loudly, ran forwards, picked up his ball and tried to put it in her pocket. She dropped like it was hot before the dozens of people stood nearby had even finished screaming 'NO!' at her. Then she ran off, giggling to herself.
The 'American lady' didn't do Bubba any favours. Apparently his ball was on the top of the rough when she picked it up and was buried in the rough after she let it drop.
Bubba arrived greenside in a foul humour, moaning about the incessant camera clicking and demanding that the crowd 'Have some respect!'
He was entirely unaware of his mischievous compatriot's intervention. No one told him. As Bull observed, 'His head might have exploded had he seen what happened three minutes earlier.'
Who knows what more impact this nefarious, but seemingly unpatriotic, 'American lady' will have on the event before the weekend is out?
