There was more interest than usual for the Web.com Tour event at TPC Stonebrae on Thursday. That was down to a star attraction being among those teeing off at the California course.
NBA player Steph Curry - one of the best basketball players in the world - carded a four-over 74 in his first ever pro golf event. 2,500 turned up to see the local hero play his opening round of the Ellie Mae Classic.
Curry is a two-time NBA champion, most recently helping the Golden State Warriors beat the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA finals back in June. He's also two-time MVP.
Curry overcame a strange start to his round. Starting on the back nine, his first tee-shot at the 10th landed in the cup holder of a golf cart.
Of course @StephenCurry30 first tee shot of @elliemaeclassic swished the bottom of the bucket! Of a golf cart! @WebDotComTour #freerelief pic.twitter.com/zgq2OHNwkL

After carding three bogies in his first five holes, the 29-year-old holed his first birdie at the 15th - he would go onto score two more over the course of the 18 holes. Curry would finish his first round 11 shots behind leader Nicholas Thompson.
Padraig Harrington was among those highly interested in how the point guard would fare.
1st golf scoring I checked out today from all tournaments was @StephenCurry30 @WebDotComTour.

It took me 20 seconds to find his score and 20 minutes to write the tweet
