Shane Lowry and Sepp Straka defeated Collin Morikawa and Richie Fowler 2&1 to put Team Europe 3-0 up in the Ryder Cup on Friday morning.

The foursome duos of Jon Rahm and Tyrrell Hatton and Viktor Hovland and Ludvig Aberg had already put points on the board with 4&3 victories over the American pairings of Scott Scheffler and Sam Burns and Brian Harman and Max Homa.

Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood subsequently beat Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay 2&1.

"Obviously, it's early days yet," a smiling Lowry told Sky Sports.

"We're off to a great start this morning, we just need to keep the foot down

"I wanted to give Sepp his moment in his first Ryder Cup to hole a winning putt. Myself and Sepp gelled well today, very happy with him, and I enjoyed myself.

"We've probably known for a couple of weeks that we might go out this morning together. We play the same golf, use the same stuff so it kind of made sense. We're similar type people. I'm a bit more fiery than him. Sepp's very laid back.

"We enjoyed it out there and it felt like we played some good golf. We dodged a few bullets out there especially around 10, 11 and 12. You're going to have that in matchplay when you have to dig deep and we did.

"I would have liked to close the match out earlier because we had good chances. It's nice to put a point on the board for Europe."

Lowry is being rested for the Friday afternoon fourballs at the Marco Simone course in Rome.
