'The Gooch is after tweeting about you'. We can't imagine Tiger Woods or Rory McIlroy having a Whatsapp group where that would be in any way normal but Shane Lowry does. He may be one of the top 20 golfers in the world but the Clara certainly couldn't be accused of forgetting where he comes from.
Speaking about his incredible Bridgestone victory last weekend, Lowry's Irish Times column is an intriguing read. From his belief that he was in bad form heading to Akron, Ohio through to his thoughts about those thrilling final few holes, it would be fair to say Lowry is in top form.
It's clear that Lowry is keen to surround himself with the right people. He learns from McDowell and Harrington, he's had the same coach and caddy since he turned pro and his friends in Clara are always there to tell him the important stuff from back home.
His first PGA tour victory was an incredible moment for his career and something which just served to top it all off was this tweet from the Gooch.
Incredible performance from @ShaneLowryGolf on such a difficult course.you got to love this guy #aggressive #confident #class #heart

Just to prove what an unbelievably down to earth man he is, it was a Whatsapp group with his friends back home that made it clear just how much the victory meant to everyone back home, even his heroes.
I’ve a WhatsApp group with my friends back home in Clara and when I opened it up they were commenting on the fact that the Gooch had tweeted about me. He is one of my sporting idols, someone I love to watch playing football.
Bernard Brogan and AP McCoy were also mentioned and Lowry's ultimate point was that it really hit home with him just how much Ireland support our own, which is undoubtedly true. (Although it certainly helps when our own are doing as well as Lowry).
