With the four majors and the Olympics having already been completed, golf fans will now be looking forward to the start of the FedExCup, the major money event that brings to an end the PGA Tour season.

Each year, golfers take part in tournaments throughout the year in hopes of making the playoffs. The top 70 players in the standings will make the cut, with that field steadily whittled down over the course of a few tournaments over the coming weeks.

The first of three FedExCup tournaments will take place in Tennessee this week. The ultimate winner will be decided at the Tour Championship at the end of August, with a mammoth $25million prize up for grabs for the victor.

There will be quite a bit of Irish involvement in this year's FedExCup, with Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, and Seamus Power all set to be involved.

Power just about made the cut for the event, with his performance at the Wyndham Championship enough to secure a 66th placed finish in the standings.

Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry would both impressively find themselves inside the top ten of the standings at the start of the playoffs. McIlroy currently sits in third, while Lowry is in tenth.

That is quite the turnaround for the Offaly man, who failed to qualify for the FedExCup in 2023. In fact, he will also pocket a sizeable payday as a result of his current position.

Each season, the top ten players in the standings ahead of the playoffs will share a $40million prize pot as part of the Comcast Business TOUR TOP 10 programme.

Lowry's share of that money comes to $2million. Rory McIlroy will receive $4.8million for his third placed finish, while leader Scottie Scheffler will pocket a cool $8million.

While this will be a nice bonus for Shane Lowry, he will be hoping that bigger things lie ahead. He is well positioned to make a deep run in the FedExCup over the next month or so, even if his form has been patchy over the last couple of weeks.

It should make for an exciting few weeks of golf.
