Paul Dunne claimed his first ever pro tournament win at the British Masters on Sunday thanks to an absolutely spectacular final round 61 that saw him finish on -20, ahead of a field full of star names.
Rory McIlroy was his closest competitor, but once Dunne chipped in on the 18th it was over in emphatic fashion and it was time for celebration... For Shane Lowry, that is.
A good friend of Paul Dunne, when the Greystones man hit that incredible chip to seal the deal Lowry celebrated as if he had made the shot himself, which would have put a big smile on the face of every Irish golf fan watching at home.
Delighted.
McIlroy too was happy for Dunne and spoke very highly of his performance over the weekend, and for Dunne to keep his cool and perform with so many experienced winners chasing him down is extremely encourgaing.
Let's hope it's the first of many.
