Phil Mickelson came so, so close to making history by becoming the first golfer to shoot a round of 62 at a major in The Open on Thursday evening, but he was cruelly denied as the ball lipped out of the cup.
The eyes of the golfing world were on Royal Troon as Phil completed a sensational first round, eventually finishing -8 and out in front heading into Friday, but he was desperately unlucky to not have set that record.
Just look at how agonising the putt was...
Mickelson was SO CLOSE to making history!

Are you too good for your home, ball!?
It was desperately unlucky, and twitter was flooded with sympathy for Mikelson, but Shane Lowry's reaction was simply outstanding. After an opening round to forget which saw Lowry finish on +7, he tweeted this:
That was big for me there. I would have never been able to come back from 16 behind. #phil
