This weekend spelled the conclusion of the PGA tour season and the end to a great year on the course for Offaly man Shane Lowry.

Lowry finished in a tie for 9th with Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy and Japan's Hideki Matsuyama at the Tour Championship, earning $1.61 million for his weekend's work.

The eventual winner was world number one Scottie Scheffler on 30 under, four shots ahead of Colin Morikawa in 2nd, as he claimed his seventh title of a dominant season on the PGA Tour and taking his season earnings to an eye-watering $56,222,145 in the process.

Lowry's rounds of 69, 69, 65 and 68 saw him finish the tournament on 16-under-par, finishing with a birdie on the final hole to end an impressive week for the Irishman.

Lowry, who combined with McIlroy to win the Zurich Classic, is $7,703,000 richer from his season on the PGA Tour. At this moment in time, the 37- year-old has one major title to his name, cruising to a six-stroke win at the 2019 British Open but it won't be long until he adds to that win if he keeps up his current form.

It's been a significant year financially for Lowry. Since turning professional in 2009, his earnings have gradually began to rise as the years passed. From earning $33,792 in 2010 there has been a huge jump to $6,616,679 in 2022.

The Clara man's family were in attendance at East Lake Golf Club as they celebrated the birthday of his young daughter and they finished the evening with a McDonald's and red wine in Florida last night.

The bottle of Chateau Lafitie-Rothschild worth no less than $1800 a bottle. Lowry seemingly going all out after his lucrative payday as he celebrated with the world-renowned, iconic red wine.

The Irishman is going to compete in three more tournaments in 2024 including the Irish Open in Royal County Down this month and he told reporters after his round that his attention will turn to the 2025 Ryder cup once those tournaments are done.
