Seamus Power retained his PGA Tour card by the thinnest of margins at the weekend.
The Waterford man headed into Wyndham Championship in North Carolina 123rd in the FedEx Cup rankings. To guarantee his tour card, he needed to be within the top 125 by Sunday evening.
That requirement was put in severe doubt when Power missed the cut. He dropped to 126th in the projected rankings at one point.
However, a disastrous back nine from Sergio Garcia on his final round saw the Spaniard fall down the leaderboard and as a result also the overall season standings. Garcia was already guaranteed his tour card due to his win at last year's Masters.
Major relief there was for Power but not so for Shane Lowry, Graeme McDowell and Padraig Harrington. All three lost their tour cards.
Lowry went into the weekend ranked 139th following a surge in performances over the past month. He was unable to replicate that forming, missing the cut and finishing 140th in the FedEx Standings.
McDowell finished 144th with Harrington in 220th.
