A less than stellar round at the Tour Championship on Sunday may have caused Rory McIlroy to miss out on the biggest cheque in golf but we have a sneaky feeling his bank account won't be hitting the red any time soon. The per tournament earnings for this year's PGA Tour have been totted up and, quite simply, McIlroy blows everyone else out of the water.
The Northern Irishman made nearly $500,000 per event over the past season. That's only from the per tournament earnings, so the $8.2 million total does not include the $2 million bonus from the FedEx Cup. Similarly, it's why Billy Horschel doesn't even appear on the top 10.
Horschel won the FedEx cup thanks to having played 27 tournaments in comparison to McIlroy's 17. Only Sergio Garcia (16) and Jason Day (15) played less than McIlroy, whose average earnings really put his incredible year into perspective.
