Phil Mickelson has seized what he thought was a great opportunity to land a blow on Rory McIlroy, and score a point for LIV Golf in the now tiresome spat between the breakaway tour and the world's no. 1 golfer.
With McIlroy currently leading in the Dubai Desert Classic in the UAE, Mickelson issued the following sarcastic tweet:
What a great -7 3rd round by @McIlroyRoryin DUBAI to open up a 3 shot lead. See if he can finish it off. Watch live final round action from the Middle East on the golf channel.
Unfortunately for the American, it is not the own he thinks it is, as playing golf in Dubai is very different from fronting a golf tour that is funded by the Saudi Arabian government.

Mickelson was perhaps spurred on because of the recent row between McIlroy and LIV member Patrick Reed, which saw both golfers fire shots at each other after an incident at the practice range.
McIlroy: "I didn't see it. I was down by my bag and he came up to me, and I was busy working and sort of doing my practise, and I didn't really feel like - I didn't feel the need to acknowledge him.
"So I didn't see a tee coming my direction at all, but apparently, that's what happened. And if roles were reversed and I'd have of thrown that tee at him, I'd be expecting a lawsuit from him."
Reed: “He saw me and he decided not to react. But it is one of those things. If you’re going to act like an immature little child then you might as well be treated like one.”
