Rory McIlroy, four time major winner, and multi-millionaire, has revealed he keeps a list of goals every year, while this is not uncommon amongst athletes and the population in general, how he writes and keeps the list may be of surprise.
McIlroy revealed to The Guardian that he keep his list on a humble boarding pass.
Every year, I fly out and do a week or 10 days of preparation in Dubai before this tournament.
I write my goals down on the back of my boarding pass, put it in my wallet and I memorise them. I don’t look at them again until the end of the year.
McIlroy wouldn't reveal his goal for this year but did reveal he has yet to have a year in which he met his goals. Despite winning two majors last year, he didn't achieve his target of six worldwide wins.
So in my back pocket in my wallet is a boarding pass with my goals for this year. I don’t really want to share them with anyone else. They are just my little goals; I’ll try and achieve those and I’ll take that boarding pass out at the end of the year and see how well I’ve done.
Last year I wanted to have six worldwide wins. I only had four,I aim pretty high. Once I don’t need the cards any more, they are just discarded.
Seeing as McIlroy finished 2014 with Four European Tour wins, Three PGA Tour wins, including two majors, as well as winning the Race to Dubai and the Ryder Cup, yet failed to achieve his goals, we can't imagine how high his targets for 2015 will be set. Whatever he includes, winning the BBC Sports Personality of The Year is sure to be top.
