Rory McIlroy shot a three-over 75 in his first round at the DP Tour World Championship in Dubai. McIlroy has twice won the tournament and, remarkably, never shot an over-par round prior to Thursday.
A large contributor to Thursday's score was the 16th where McIlroy carded a double bogey. Already at two over going into the hole, McIlroy's second shot went slightly astray landed in the water at the edge of the green. Still, it was a recoverable position - though, not until the world number two had removed his right shoe and sock.
McIlroy's second round would go far better as he shot a 68 leaving him one-under for the tournament.
