You may remember the Ryder Cup shoot-out between Rory McIlroy and Patrick Reed descended into a strange game of one-upmanship as to which golfer could bump fists and clasp hands with their caddy the most aggressively before both players came together in acknowledgment of some sensational matchplay.
This weekend, Rory McIlroy is playing all for himself at Augusta, and in doing so has dispensed with the fist-bumping pleasantries. After a slow start in which he left Amen Corner at three-over, Rory battled back to finish strongly. McIlroy's best shot of the day - and perhaps the best overall - was his tee shot on sixteen, which he hit within a couple of feet of the hole.
His playing partner Jon Rahm was impressed and offered his fist in recognition. McIlroy totally blanked it, and it was all slightly awkward.
Watch it below.
Rory McIlroy
Awkward.
Here it is in super slo-mo:
We love the subtle, 'oh...oh...I'll, erm, just slip my hand in my pocket so..." from Rahm.
@JonRahmpga lost the momentum after @McIlroyRory denied him the fist bump. 👊🏽⛳️
