This past weekend saw David Lingmerth defeat Justin Rose in a playoff to win the 2015 Memorial Tournament at Muirfeild Village in Dublin... Ohio, but our favourite story to come from the event came away from the golf course.
Phil Mickleson didn't have a particularly memorable Memorial Tournament, but he left two local children with a memory they will never forget.
6 year old Roland Van Karsen and his 8 year old sister Karen were selling lemonade at a pop-up lemonade stand the way pretty much every child does at some point, when they were surprised by a very well known customer. It turns out that Phil Mickleson spotted the kids, pulled his car over, ordered some lemonade, and tipped the kids with a $100 bill.
The kids obviously were thrilled, and when news stations covering the golf got wind of the gesture, they asked them what they would do with the money:
A nerf gun, good call kid!
Fair play to Phil Mickleson, who continues to show why he is one of golf's best liked pros.
