The saga of the LIV Golf Series continues, with Dustin Johnson resigning his PGA Tour status and fully committing to the controversial Saudi-backed tour.

In a press-conference Johnson answered questions from the media, saying that he 'couldn't comment' too much on the consequences of his decision from the perspective of the PGA Tour, as it is still unclear what the Tour's full reaction will be to the breakaway players.

Johnson was confident that he would still be allowed play in the majors with his exemption, and expressed his wish that the rules would change to allow non-PGA Tour players to compete in the Ryder Cup.

Ultimately, while it was a tough decision that he thought 'long and hard' about, he was adamant that the decision was based on what was best for his family.

Johnson was last week named in the field for the LIV Tour's first event this week, which came as a surprise considering a statement he released in February where he committed fully to the PGA Tour.

Now with his full resignation of his PGA Tour membership, he has completely reneged on the promises of the statement, which reads as follows:

“Over the past several months, there has been a great deal of speculation about an alternative tour; much of which seems to have included me and my future in professional golf. I feel it is now time to put such speculation to rest. I am fully-committed to the PGA TOUR.

"I am grateful for the opportunity to play on the best tour in the world and for all it has provided me and my family. While there will always be areas where our TOUR can improve and evolve, I am thankful for our leadership and the many sponsors who make the PGA TOUR golf’s premier tour.”

The first event of the LIV Golf Tour begins this Thursday in London, where Johnson will be joined at the Centurion Club by the likes of Graeme McDowell, Phil Mickelson, Ian Poulter, and Lee Westwood.
