Paul Dunne shot to stardom this week with a fantastic performance at The Open championship, as he shocked everyone to lead heading into the final round. While the end result wasn't what he had hoped for being in such a good position, it was still a sensational weekend for the 22 year old from Greystones, and his father Colm was today speaking to Brendan O'Connor about the experience.
Colm Dunne has revealed how after the final round, the reaction from the pros who were competing with Paul were extremely kind to the amateur, and Jordan Spieth in particular comes away from it sounding like an asbolute gent.
He (Spieth) had a word with him twice when he came in and that was a very, very nice thing to do. The amount of goodwill from the other golfers was absolutely incredible.
In fairness to Jordan Spieth, and we all know how big a player and ambassador he is for the game, he sought him out. Rickie Fowler went up to him afterwards too, there was a huge amount of goodwill.
When your playing sport at a high level, to get the respect of your peers is a huge thing. That's a huge thing for him.
Could Jordan Spieth be any more likable?
Despite being a cold blooded killer on the golf course at just 21 years of age, he seems to have a very good head on his shoulders and you never hear a bad word about him.
This sort of humility will no doubt continue to endear him to golf fans, and hopefully we see Paul Dunne go on and challenge Speith in events over the next few years and beyond.
