Padraig Harrington has had a difficult year, injury-wise, and underwent surgery to alleviate the pain of a trapped nerve in his neck back in March. The aim was to recover in time to try and qualify for the US Open, ahead of playing at the Open and Irish Open.
He has, unfortunately, missed out on qualification for the US Open, and further bad luck has struck the Irishman today - quite literally.
He has been forced to pull out of this weekend's FedEx St. Jude Classic with an injury sustained in absurdly misfortunate fashion.
Harrington revealed the details of his injury on twitter:
Just withdrawn from @PGATOUR @fesjcmemphis this week.I was hit on the elbow with a practice swing by an amateur I was coaching at an outing.

Thankfully nothing was broken, just 6 stitches. I thought it was the end of me playing competitive golf.

I'll only be out for 12 days or so to let stitches heal.

There's no truth in the rumour that it was the amateur's best strike of the day @fesjcmemphis @PGATOUR

Thankfully, it's not serious, but that level of bad luck for Padraig Harrington is up there with Dustin Johnson missing the Masters by falling down the stairs.
