The organisers of the Women's Irish Open have received a massive boost, with the confirmation on Friday that Leona Maguire will play in the upcoming tournament in Clare.
Maguire confirmed the news on Friday morning, amid uncertainty surrounding her schedule.
Leona Maguire to play at Irish Open at Dromoland Castle
The Irish Open returns this September after 10 years away, and will form part of the European Tour.
Dromoland Castle in County Clare will host the event from September 22-25, and the star of Irish women's golf - Leona Maguire - has confirmed she will play at the return of the Irish Open.
The presence of Maguire had been in doubt due to her packed schedule, but she confirmed the news on Friday, saying:
I have heard amazing things about what they are doing at Dromoland with their investment into the course, and I cannot wait to play again in front of the Irish fans.
Leona Maguire shared her excitement for playing at the Irish Open on her Twitter account.
Can’t wait to play in next months @womensirishopen!
It is great to see a home event back on the LET schedule after a decade and I’m really looking forward to to teeing it up at @dromolandgolf in front of the best fans in the world. See you all next month! 💚🇮🇪 pic.twitter.com/osQ0fG2I5K— Leona Maguire (@leona_maguire) August 26, 2022

The host venue, Dromoland Golf, shared similar sentiments on Twitter, saying they were "delighted" with the news.
Leona Maguire has been enjoying a terrific run of form over the past two years. She enjoyed back-to-back top ten Major finishes over the summer, including a brilliant tied fourth at the Women's Open earlier this month. The highlight of the year, however, came in February, when she became the first Irishwoman ever to win on the LPGA tour. She currently sits in 16th place in the World Rankings, and in 13th in the LPGA Race to CME Globe standings.
The presence of a home hero is a massive boost to the event, which will be held next month for the first time since 2012.
The Irish Open will not be the first major event for Leona Maguire in Ireland this year. In June, she took part in the JP McManus Pro-Am in Adare Manor, playing alongside the likes of Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy.
The Irish Open will be held for the next three years, backed by KPMG and Sport Ireland. Irish sports fans will hope to see Leona Maguire not only taking part for the next few years, but making a big impact, as the women's game continues to surge in Ireland.
