UPDATE: 16:57
Westwood has apologised to his sponsors and followers for the numerous tweets which he sent out earlier today.
Sincere apologies to my sponsors and true followers for my earlier comments .
It was out of order and out of character ,Westy .— Lee Westwood (@WestwoodLee) August 12, 2013
Lee Westwood is still searching for his first major win despite showing some early promise in the PGA Championship at Oak Hill this weekend.
He eventually finished three over, thirteen shots behind winner, Jason Dufner.
Westwood is a player that many people continue to believe will one day make a breakthrough to win that elusive major and so still attracts backers with the bookmakers. Some of those backers must have been a bit upset with his performance over the weekend with many taking to Twitter to send their ire straight to the English man.
The world no. 14 eventually got tired of the negative comments and decided to hit back at the 'haters'.
