One of golf's more memorable meltdowns occurred Sunday morning during the final round of the DP World Championship in Dubai. Dutch golfer Joost Luiten was the culprit.
Luiten was toiling at the bottom of the leaderboard, near the turn for the back nine. After a wayward drive on the ninth hole on the back of a bogey on the eighth, Luiten succumbed to a fit of rage.
He flung his driver into a tree, but unfortunately the tree did not return the driver.
Luiten then hurled two other clubs into the tree in an effort to dislodge the driver.
Unfortunately both of those clubs remained in the tree as well.
Luiten sent his caddy up the tree and tried flinging sticks, hoisting a scoreboard and even jumping to reach the clubs.
Sadly, he had no success and completed the ninth hole with just 11 clubs in his bag.

Joost Luiten: 'I was frustrated'
Here's how he explained it to the DP World Tour web team.
I had just made bogey at the eighth. I was frustrated, one of those weeks [when] nothing went my way.
“Lost it and threw my driver and it got stuck up a tree. That sums up my week nicely.
“I tried to get it out by throwing some other clubs at it and [two] other clubs got stuck up the tree so I couldn’t get them out.”
In the end, Luiten received all of the clubs back thanks to a volunteer who retrieved them
“I just went on and played the rest of the hole and one of the volunteers got them out, otherwise it would have been a funny round to finish with 11 clubs"
Despite all of the tree climbing, Luiten finished his round at +1. He finished three-over for the tournament, 48th of the 50 golfers who'd earned a place in the tournament.
Danish golfer Nicolai Hojgaard won the tournament, shooting -21.
