Jon Rahm has praised Rory McIlroy for his stance against LIV Golf while also backing it up with strong performances through the season.

As the world’s best players prepare for this week’s DP World Tour Championship, LIV Golf once again dominates the headlines in the golfing world, as several big names have jumped ship from the PGA Tour to the Saudi funded LIV Tour.

Sergio Garcia, Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter, Cameron Smith, Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka are just some of the big names that have joined LIV Golf, despite the huge backlash for Saudi Arabia’s human rights record.

No player has spoke out more against this than Rory McIlroy, who has constantly made his stance clear against the controversial tour. Despite some of his Ryder Cup teammates and former PGA opponents joining the tour, the world number one has consistently called out the repercussions of the LIV Golf.

As it stands, LIV Golf players cannot earn world ranking points, leaving their place in future majors and next year's Ryder Cup unclear.

Jon Rahm Praises Rory McIlroy

Speaking ahead of this week’s event, Jon Rahm has praised the Rory McIlroy for his consistent position on the issue, while also praising his form this season that has seen him become world number one following his CJ Cup victory

“He’s played amazing. I think the only thing he will tell you that’s missing is a major championship off having a pretty amazing year.

It’s great to see somebody with his platform to take a stand as he did, whether you agree with it or not, he’s taken a stand on what he believes in and that’s it. I think that’s great.

He’s had a lot of input. He’s been on the board of the PGA Tour and tried to make a change. To be honest, with how long these meetings are and how much as players we talk to each other to play as good as he has, is pretty remarkable.

We are all basically CEOs of our own little golf company, and now he has invested in so much more. Again, the role he’s had in both is quite incredible.”
