Shane Lowry is on course to be the second-best Irish finisher at the week's Irish Open.
The 2009 champion shot an excellent final round of 66 at Portstewart to all but guarantee a top-20 finish. Dublin's Gavin Moynihan shot a 64 and will finish one-shot ahead of Lowry as the top-Irish player this week.
After completing his round, Lowry walked past Off The Ball's studio at the course, just as presenter Nathan Murphy was speaking to Ivan Yates, who was concluding his Yates on Sunday show on Newstalk.
An impromptu interview between Lowry and Yates followed on-air that was live and unplanned. It didn't start off on the best footing as one of Yates' first questions was asking the Offaly golfer why his form has been "a little disappointing" recently.
IY: Shane before has been an ambassador of the Special Olympics and is a great fella. Now he's got wives and babies and all that. No wonder his form has tapered off.
SL: Wives?
IY: How's it going Shane?
SL: Em. Not too bad. I was just slagging the lads there, 'cause they called me in when I shot a bad score yesterday, and they didn't want me when I was playing well today.
NM: You said at the beginning of the week you would come in if you shot a 65. It was a 66 so we had to leave it.
SL: All is great Ivan. Thanks very much.
IY: Lets call a spade, a spade. Your form has been a little disappointing this week, and recently.
SL: I wasn't expecting that. -12 is not bad. I'll take -12 any week. I just played a few holes badly here and there.
IY: You're happy with your form generally?
SL: I am, yeah! To be kind of honest, I'm sick of people telling me my form is bad. I fell like I'm playing good golf and I feel my results have been half-decent.
IY: Okay.
SL: People need to start realising back home that golf is not easy. I'm doing my best out there every day to do as well as I can.
IY: What about the Irish challenge this week, beyond yourself?
SL: Well if you look at young Gavin Moynihan just had a great finish there. Hopefully he top-tens and gets himself into next week. Playing the Irish Open - people don't understand it's quite difficult as an Irish player. It's been very disappointing that Rory [McIlroy], Graeme [McDowell] and a few of the Northern lads missed the cut but myself and Padraig [Harrington] and Paul [Dunne] and Gav all made a good show of ourselves this week.
IY: Who do you think will win?
SL: I think it's Jon Rahm's to lose to be honest. I have to go here Ivan.
NM: He's got to run. Will you ever come back into us again now?
