The Claret Jug is an iconic artefact of sporting history. Even the name evokes images of genteel older gentlemen sitting around in their smoking jackets heartily tucking into a near priceless bottle of Bordeaux. And for many years that is how the trophy has been regarded. Just recently, last year's winner Phil Mickelson harked back to yesteryear by revealing that he drank a $40,000 bottle of Romanee Conti wine from 1990. Classy stuff from Phil so.
But Rory McIlroy is not a man of yesteryear, he's a 25 year old with the world at his feet. The Co.Down man decided to forego the ostentatious bottles of wine on his first night with the trophy. His drink of choice? A bottle of Jagermeister. His mother was even on hand to supervise, good for her.
Name the drink that’s going into the Claret Jug. #RoryMcIlroy @The_Open pic.twitter.com/j6Kunx7fOk
