A few minutes after Dustin Johnson's second shot to the ninth at The Open, Sky Sports reporter Wayne Riley named the victim of the wayward approach.
Irish Times golf correspondent Philip Reid had been both lucky and unlucky enough to be standing by the green at Birkdale when the American's shot went slightly off course.
According to Riley, the TaylorMade ball had hit Reid on the cheekbone
He reassured the journalist's family that though he was OK, there could be some substantial superficial damage.
Family, he's fine but tomorrow he's going to look like he's gone 12 rounds with Frank Bruno.
Reid later tweeted some evidence of the damage and the ball which DJ was kind enough to autograph.
