Ian Poulter's use of some nice Instagram filters garnered a lot of attention yesterday. While quite a few players were vocal in their opinion that the greens at Chambers Bay were simply not up to scratch, Poulter, as tends to happen, has become the poster-boy for the complaining professional.
It must be said that Poulter is often a breadth of fresh air when it comes to speaking his mind. You may not always agree with him but you can't argue that he's boring. He'll invariably have an opinion and he'll let everyone know it. As such, it was no surprise to see Poulter let loose at the USGA in the aftermath of the US Open at Chambers Bay.
Many fans were less than enamoured with Poulter's opinion, pointing to the fact that the cream invariably rose to the top with Jordan Spieth's victory. Brad Faxon, Fox Sports commentator and former PGA Tour player, has summed up such opinions rather nicely while speaking on Boston's WEEI radio.
Poulter's kind of a twat when he does stuff like that.
The views are spectacular. We're out here in Puget Sound. You're seeing this unbelievable links-style golf course. Everyone would like to come out here and play a round of golf.
And you're whining about these greens being bad when everybody has to play those same greens on those same holes.
I get it. The greens weren't perfect. Everyone was saying things about that, even the USGA said, 'The grass just hasn't grown in like we wanted it to.
The guy that wins, Jordan Spieth, said the least about it, didn't he? You didn't hear Jordan Spieth saying, 'These greens are bad.' I think you just kind of need to shut up.
He's not the first to have that opinion of Poulter and he certainly won't be the last.
