It was a positive weekend on the whole for Shane Lowry at the Honda Classic in Florida. The Clara man finished in a share of 5th place after a final round of 70.
Many of the world's other elite golfers sit out this tournament but after finishing second at 2022 Honda Classic, Lowry was looking to go one better this year after finishing in the top 1o of the Genesis Invitational. The Irishman nearly pulled out of the event due to a death in his family. Lowry decided to play in the event and opened up with a two under round of 68.
Lowry had surged into contention after the third round. He opened up his third round with a front nine of 32 which included three birdies. His highlight of day three was on the back nine as he birdied three holes in a row. He only needed 25 putts as Lowry shot a excellent round of 65. Lowry brought himself back into contention with only been four behind with just one round to go.
Yesterday, Lowry needed to go low to post a score for the leaders to catch but got off to a terrible start as he had a bogey on the first hole. He recovered as he birdied the par 5 3rd but followed up with seven straight pars to shoot a front nine of even par. Lowry was six behind the leader as he started the back nine. Lowry hit a extraordinary shot at the 10th to set up a tap in birdie but his charge came to an end as he had a bogey on the par 4 12th. The flat stick was cold for Lowry as he had 35 putts in his final round.
After the round, Lowry sounded positive about the tournament.
I played lovely, and I just couldn't get it going. I started to get uncomfortable on the greens early on, and that was the way it was the whole day. Disappointing, but I had a lot of positives to take from this week. Some nice FedExCup points. My golf game is in a place where I'm happy with it. I'm going into a nice stretch of the season.
