There were some remarkable scenes at the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club yesterday after Europe reclaimed the Ryder Cup, something that was completely understandable when you consider the context of their victory.
Their defeat against the USA at Whistling Straits two years ago was one of the most embarrassing in the history of the competition. In fact, it was so bad that some suggested that the Americans were unlikely to lose in this event again for a decade or more.
The players who took part in that loss have spent the last two years hoping they would earn the opportunity to get revenge in Rome this time around. When they finally did so, the outpouring of emotion was a sight to behold. No player more so than Shane Lowry.

Team Europe enjoy Ryder Cup celebrations
Having spent the last week together before finally sealing their Ryder Cup victory yesterday, you could be sure that the Europeans were always going to make the most of the celebrations that were to come in the hours after followed their win.
It began while they were still at the golf course, but things really kicked up a gear once they got onto the team bus. They were recorded singing a number of songs, but this one certainly got the juices flowing for the 12 team members and the rest of the European entourage.

While most members of Team Europe will have had flights out of Italy scheduled for today, it didn't stop them keeping the party going long into the night.

While the golfers will now go their separate ways, you get the feeling that they will be basking in the glory of their Ryder Cup victory for a few more days yet.
Shane Lowry has already said that he is planning to drag Rory McIlroy out for a few more days once the pair return to Florida. The local bars in Jupiter better have a few kegs of Guinness on tap and ready to go.
