The prevalence of the Confederate Flag in American culture has been called into question following the shooting dead of nine people at the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston, South Carolina. Supermarket giant Walmart announced they have ceased selling merchandise relating to the Confederate Flag and the governor of South Carolina has requested the flag is removed from the state's capitol buildings.
The flag's presence at major American sporting events has also been questioned, and NASCAR's tracks have united in calling on all fans to abstain from flying the flag at their grounds.
Golfer Bubba Watson has now entered the debate by declaring that he is painting over the Confederate Flag that adorns his General Lee. Watson announced the decision on twitter:
All men ARE created equal, I believe that so I will be painting the American flag over the roof of the General Lee #USA

The General Lee is the car made famous by The Dukes Of Hazzard, and Watson bid $110,000 at an auction for the car, which was used in the first ever episode of the TV series.

The car is clearly dear to Watson, so it is a powerful statement by the two-time Masters champion.
