It was a day that Shane Lowry will remember for the rest of his days. The Clara man tied the major championship record for lowest score in a single round by shooting 62 in his third round at the PGA Championship at Valhalla.
"Moving Day" was an understatement for Lowry. His putter was on fire as he fired in nine birdies in a bogey-free round that sees him into the clubhouse on -13.
Lowry shot 63 in the third round at Portrush in 2019 in his immortal Open triumph, which has many fans hoping we could see another Irishman win a major at Valhalla.
Xander Schauffele and Colin Morikawa started round three atop the leaderboard and that's where they stayed throughout the day.
Lowry joins Branden Grace, Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele as the only men to shoot 62 at a major.
Lowry was buoyed by the form of playing partner Justin Rose, who himself shot 64 and sits just a shot behind Lowry on -12.
He was only inches from shooting 61. A wayward tee shot on the Par 5 18th meant he was scrambling but a brilliant third shot set up a birdie putt that finished just inches from the hole.

He told CBS Sports afterwards that he knew he was chasing history with that birdie putt and was gutted it didn't drop.
Shane Lowry gives ball away
There was a great moment after that 18th hole as Lowry gave away his ball to a kid in an Ireland jersey.
Shane Lowry is a man of the people 🙌

Another golfer might have held onto that ball as a memento of a famous round but Lowry was happy to give it away.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the round, Lowry sounded pretty grounded.
I thought if I could get to 10 under today I'd give myself somewhat of a chance tomorrow. I went out and got out to a great start. Myself and Justin Rose we had a great day out there. We just enjoyed every minute of it. Obviously it's pretty cool to do something like this, but there's a lot to do tomorrow.
I think I just need to go out tomorrow and fight hard, and fight to the very end. I've been in this position a few times before and once it's gone my way and a couple times it hasn't. I know what to do. I'll go out and give it everything I have and hopefully at the end of the day, it's pretty good.
