The only way Rory McIlroy's weekend could have been better was if he had been able to attend the Mayweather vs Pacquiao fight. The world's number one golfer had tickets for the bout but his quarter-final tie with Paul Casey at the WGC Match Play in San Francisco went to a playoff meaning he had to watch at the course instead.
After defeating Casey, in a match that did not actually finish until Sunday due to poor light, he took on Jim Furyk in the semis. The American was one up after 16 but a birdie, birdie, eagle finish from McIlroy ensured progress to the final where Furyk's fellow countryman Gary Woodland awaited.
Woodland was dispatched 4&2 as the Irishman claimed his first WGC Match Play title.
