It's four years since Rory McIlroy changed his physique by hiring personal trainer Steve McGregor and getting serious in the gym. In that time he has gone from tubby to ripped.
The Irishman's dedication has inspired one of his rivals to hit the gym also. In an interview with the Sydney Morning Herald, Jason Day specifically named McIlroy as the reason he's lifting weights six times a week when he's not playing a tournament.
He's a strong boy. He's really inspired me to get better. To be a lot more fit.
Back in 2007 he was a little tubby kid. He's changed over the years. I don't know how much it's impacted his golf but all those things add up. Look like that, feel good.
It was a factor when Tiger dominated, to see an intimidating guy across the tee was a challenge. It's something I'm working towards.
