Shane Lowry heads into the Masters in two weeks time as one of the best 50 players in the world. Over the past year or so, Lowry has refined his game to become much more than the fan favourite who was up one week and down the next at the start of his professional career. The past year has seen him maintain a level of consistency that most players would love to have.
The only blot on his copybook was a surprising missed cut at last week's Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill. That missed cut 'was the kind of kick up the arse' that he needed ahead of the Masters. He had become complacent, something which Augusta will not forgive you for, however, there was a more important positive to come out of his Bay Hill performance.

If there was a positive to missing the cut, it was that, from thousands of miles away, I was able to live through what seemed to be a mad day’s rugby in the Six Nations with Ireland finally coming through as champions. We’re a great little country for sport, aren’t we?
Lowry followed the Italy vs Wales on twitter from Florida before tuning in to the Ireland match on his laptop and finally heading back to twitter for the England vs France match before getting the full finale experience with his brother on Facetime.
So, in some ways, as bad as I’d felt when it happened, it was a good weekend to have missed the cut.
