David Love III will be named the next captain of the Ryder Cup team later today according to numerous media in the States. The Associated Press has cited two sources close to the deal who have confirmed that the 50 year old will take on the top job replacing Tom Watson whose style of captaincy came in for some strong criticism following a heavy defeat at Gleneagles.

The official announcement isn't due until later today but with the Associated Press, the Golf Channel and ESPN all running with the belief that it will be Love, it would be a very big surprise if it were to be anyone else.

The 50 year old has been captain before, falling to defeat in the most dramatic of circumstances at Medinah in 2012. However, the powers that be, have seen fit to return to Love following the US's poor performance at Gleneagles.

That poor performance saw the formation of a task force charged with returning the US to Ryder Cup superiority. Love was a member of that task force, and it remains to be seen if his appointment by way of a committee that was intended to change things up, will be well received.

The European captain for Hazeltine in 2016 is expected to be announced on Wednesday.
