The Last of Us Part II is already smashing records, becoming the fastest-selling PlayStation 4 exclusive game of all time.
Early retail data shows that, on box copies alone, the Last of Us 2 beat fellow Naughty Dog game Uncharted 4, which sold one percent less during its launch weekend in 2016.

Digital sales for the action-horror game were not factored in. It is likely that the launch was even bigger, considering a lot of stores are closed or operating at a limited capacity due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation.
According to gamesindustry.biz, sales for the sequel were significantly higher than its PS3 predecessor. Launch sales for Part II were 76 percent higher than the original, although it is important to note that the PS4 is a more popular console.
This makes The Last of Us 2 the fastest-selling game of the year, overtaking Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the Nintendo Switch by 40 percent.
Will The Last of Us Part II be the biggest game of the year? It'll be interesting to see how it continues to perform over the next couple of months. It hasn't faced much competition yet but this is likely to change with the release of the highly-anticipated Ghost of Tsushima on 17th July.
